A new Covid-19 detection tool has appeared in the device settings Android and iOS as part of an update of their operating systems.

This new feature, referred to as "report notification", is disabled by default and is not a tracking application. What it does do is allow a tracking application to run in the background while still using device.

This practice allows application calculate the distance between two devices and then notify the user in case someone close to them has recently been found positive for the virus.

However, the update caused some confusion among users, who started asking about it on SOCIAL MEDIA.

"It's not a new application, but an additional element in it Operating Systems of phones that will allow approved developers to create applications that could potentially alert infected people, "said Professor Alan Woodward of the University of Surrey.

“Only applications that have been approved by Google and Apple and included in their application stores will be able to make use of this installation. ”

In iPhone located at settingsAt confidentiality menu and then in subsection health. On Android devices it is in the section Google (services and preferences) of the settings menu.

The new add-on is not compatible with the popular application Covid Symptom Study, which has more than 3 million downloads.

A group of developers NHS has created a contact tracking application and is testing it on Isle of Wight, but the UK government is now planning to integrate software developed by Apple and Google. This tool is part of this collaboration between technology giants. It allows devices to exchange data and warn people if they are near someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.
