According to his report The world, Rouen-Charles Nicolle University Hospital is today struggling to recover from a devastating ransomware attack that hit them almost a week ago. It is one of the largest hospitals in Northern France, with 2500 beds and 10000 staff, so the disorder affects many hundreds of people in need of help and care. Currently, the ransomware worm has spread to about six thousand hospital computers, while the IT team decided to close the rest to avoid spreading.

This means that the hospital is currently running at a significantly reduced performance, as control results cannot be shared between offices, there can be no central patient screening and management system, nothing can be printed and no visit planning can be done, and operation. In this situation, priority is given to cases emergency, while the hospital's IT team is working feverishly with the French National Agency for Information Security to restart operations. systems health care. According to what was revealed to the public, there were no ransom demands, so even if the hospital wanted to pay someone, it would be impossible.

Reportedly rumors of ransom demands of 1500 euros for each computer (9 million in total) are not true. Possibly, the hospital did not keep many backups in general, so it is very likely that data patients will now be irreparably lost. As stated by the team manager information technology in the press, they had covered about 25% of recovery mode on Monday and expect the process to continue for at least another week.

Whereas carers, nurses and nurses doctors state that the nurses are not running any risk, everyone admits that the time of care has been significantly extended, to several hours to be precise. As we have seen recently, even minutes of emergencies can have serious consequences. impact in the mortality rate of patients. A Vanderbilt University study showed an increase in 36 deaths per 10000 heart attack in hospitals who suffered data breach. Many patients are currently referred to Elbeuf Hospital, where some of Rouen's surgeries and sterilization services are now being performed.
